June 18th Ride Report            Lone Rangers/AFTA Ride Reports

Someone once said, “So many trails, so little time”.  It must have been one of our members! June 18th we were the privileged guests of Ray and Georgia Brown in Linden.  On Saturday we had 24 riders.  Some were Lone Rangers, some AFTA, and some were old friends.  Ray shared his favorite trails with us.  There was something for everyone, from flat, easy-going terrain up to mildly challenging hills.  He chose a nice, comfy lunch spot, and then we rode back to camp where he and Georgia treated us to a great bar-be-que, complete with grilled burgers with all the fixings.  Wayne even made one of his famous cobblers in a Dutch oven to top things off.

Sunday’s ride was a little shorter, but just as nice.  Yep, back to camp to finish off the last of the burgers!  Ray and Georgia worked hard to sponsor this ride for us, and we all enjoyed it very much. Many thanks to the Browns from your friends.

July 4th weekend showed just what a versatile group we have.  Our plans to ride at Pinchott Cabin changed at the last minute because of the Cave Creek Complex fire.  We all agreed to revisit the White Mountains again, where we knew it would be cool and smoke free.  We were not disappointed.  The weather was perfect, with intense blue skies, beautiful fur and spruce, and meadows of green grass.  (My horse’s favorite.)  We rode to the John Wayne cabin on Saturday.  What great pictures we took of the remodeled cabin.  Then we moseyed over to Crescent Lake for our lunch spot.  We were traveling cross country when we spotted a baby elk quietly lying by a tree, waiting for mom’s return.  Back at camp the stoves were fired up for our Saturday night potluck dinner.  There was lots of yummy food as usual.  On Sunday we rode into Greer, enjoying the fantastic display of wild flowers and unsurpassed scenery.  Then back to camp for potluck “leftovers” and camaraderie around the campfire.

If any of this sounds like fun to you, come join us for some great rides, new friends, and to see our beautiful state from the back of your horse.  The Lone Rangers is a singles riding group and AFTA is the Arizona Fox Trotters Association.  For more information on the Lone Rangers, call Jane at (480) 821-6840 and for AFTA call Karen at (602) 538-6658.
